Your student ID is good for more than dining hall swipes or access to your dorm. It’s your key to experiencing Boston. The city is home to more than 50 museums, and unbeknownst to many of us, these institutions often provide free or discounted tickets to students.

Boston is home to more than 50 colleges and universities, so these museums and institutions know that student access is crucial. BU students, specifically, can use discounts at many museums, including these five:

2. The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, just down the street from the MFA, was created by Isabella Stewart Gardner to fulfill her and her husband Jack’s lifelong dream. The museum displays Isabella’s vibrant, wide-ranging art collection. Although it endured a notorious and devastating robbery in 1990, the rest of the collection has remained untouched since her death in 1924. BU students receive free access.

4. The New England Aquarium

The New England Aquarium overlooks Boston Harbor and is home to an impressive array of marine life exhibits and features, including a 200,000-gallon “ocean tank.” The museum highlights its conservation efforts and provides visitors with education on ocean health.

5. The Museum of Science

Straddling the Charles River between Boston and Cambridge, The Museum of Science offers more than 700 interactive educational and hands-on exhibits and live animals and is also home to the acclaimed Charles Hayden Planetarium. Whether you’re looking for a weekend activity or want to learn something new, your BU ID is your golden ticket.
